Copy the summary numbers from your strategy tester (TradingView, MetaStock, MT5 or a spreadsheet). The checker runs simple rules and tells you whether to keep testing, keep it or bin it. Nothing leaves your browser.
Verdict
The rules
- DELETE CANDIDATE: drawdown of 20% or more, or at least 30 trades over 21+ days that still lose money (PF under 1 or net profit not positive).
- TOO EARLY: fewer than 30 trades or fewer than 21 days. Not enough to judge.
- LUCKY?: one trade made more than half the net profit.
- GREAT: 50+ trades, PF 1.5+, drawdown 10% or less, largest win no more than 25% of net, and the last 30 days positive.
- FADING: profitable overall but the last 30 days lost money. WEAK: PF between 1 and 1.2. OK: passes the basics.
A backtest isn't a forward result. Fees, slippage and changing markets usually make live results worse. Run it on a demo or tiny size before trusting it. For information only, not financial advice.
