I think you are spot on there Libero. I have exactly the same view. I fear this will also be the last nail in the coffin for the 'UK', as austerity deepens and it's the poor end of society that is to take the brunt of the cuts (12 billion more to come off welfare) I think there will be violent protest/civil unrest.
A fundamental change to the voting system is needed to reinvigorate true democracy but the Conservatives will fight tooth and nail to avoid that.

Hi Rab,
The Lib Dems probably were aware that they were going to suffer. If I recall correctly, The German Liberals entered a coalition, and by the next election they got decimated.
That's what happens when you become a junior partner, sadly and on reflection, whilst they "betrayed" a lot of their fan base, I don't believe they deserved this sort of crushing.
Regarding a return to a two party system, I honestly don't know, for a few reasons:
1. Watching UKIP's 4 million voters get just one MP, means there will be calls for a more proportional system.
2. Prepare for riots as the cuts take shape. Less police, More crime, More inequality, More Injustice and so on.
3. By the time the Tories re-draw boundaries, the next election will see Labour (and which labour? nu-labour? old-nu-labour? old labour? real-labour) be lucky to get 180 seats.
I understand the facade, indeed the charade that elections have become. Cheeks of the same back-side some might say; Strange, I know that if I voted for the Tories it would help me personally as a "skilled guy" (lower taxes, corp-tax for my gains, and so on).
However, it may be harmful to me in the future (they'll kill the NHS, encourage people to die and so on).
And certainly, what benefits me now will be at the expense of those less fortunate than I, so even if I don't care about anyone else (which I do), I would at least be concerned about the "poor" jumping over my high-fence and stealing the cash gained from lower taxes etc...
You see where I'm going with this right? Voting is often seen as a personal thing, but one can't do it without considering the implications to society (the collective).
My conclusion? I'm still thinking about it, but here's a thought:
Rhe real democratic process may actually mean that people shouldn't vote anymore. it'll only encourage politicians!

I live in a very safe Labour constituency, and voted Green because it was the first time they have put up a candidate and I want to see them do so again in the future. I'm very disillusioned with the whole process in general, and was quite upset that the Lib Dems lost so many seats. Personally, I don't think they deserved such a routing and I sincerely hope this isn't a step back towards the two party system.

Nice idea about voting for the smallest candidate!
Strong hold here for conservatives, I guess no one expected them to have won with a majority.
Shocking that 3 main party leaders reigned though and what about the SNP! They smashed it!

Sure! I voted (like always)
And I always vote for the "smallest" candidate / part (like always).
The area I'm in is a "safe" hold (bookies offering 80 to 1 *ON* tells you the story)
So, what I usually do is, vote for the smallest party, in the hope that the poor candidate gets his / her deposit back.
What about Democracy?!?
Hmm, nice idea, but I've not seen it in action for a long time personally!
