Jacko,
Best wishes with your home back to blighty. I heard that the job market is picking up in the IT sector which may imply companies are more confident in the economy.
Give us a shout if you are passing through Amsterdam!
cheers,
Andy.

Jacko, good luck with whatever the future holds.
Having previously been in your situation myself - living abroad for years and then returning to the UK - I know exactly what you're facing. Those who have never experienced living abroad often moan and complain about the UK but, there is a security here that is almost impossible to find elsewhere. I am sure things will come together quite quickly.
Whatever, don't be a stranger; keep in touch and never, ever, stop trading: one day you will need the skills you have been developing the last few years. Open your eyes and see. Don't listen to others. You have a good brain - use it, and you will be fine.
Most important, look after yourself first, above all others: if you don't look after yourself you will not be able to look after those who depend on you.
The very best of fortune my friend!

Good luck with the move Steve. People are very friendly in the North, but it rains a lot in Manchester area. Nice countryside nearby though, you have the beautiful Lake District less than an hour away and the Yorkshire dales and moores are great for days out with the family.

Amongst other options, if you fancy - do consider Junior Stockbroker/Trader Job opportunities
Check this out:
www.mymanchesterjobs.co.uk/junior-broker...ce-necessary-2668168
I don't know how lucrative they are but it's a field you are passionate about so it may be worth exploring!
Good luck with your move and for everything!
