A Very good decision imo.

also you may want to consider part free / part of the site requires subscription.

either way, great site with great contributions.

We may just keep it payed for the time being as the thought of kids coming onto the bb and abusing people reminded me why we charge ;) The current cost should be high enough to deter abuser. I suppose having tens of thousands of posters would be hard to administer as well.
Its a hard decision and we wont rush this.
Thanks for your response guys .

Advertising wise it will stay as it is now. I hate adverts poping up. This is the least money earning for our site so far as I hate adverts. It's not my top priority as adverts generally spoil web pages .we have had companies approach us about advertising but we have turned them down as we don't want to put up adverts that would pop up and ruin the experience of chartsview. I hated this when it used to happen on iii and I sure would not allow that to happen on here.
If its a free site then we don't have to drop every thing to sought minor problems out. Due to our useless developers
we have had so much problems with the payed side of things.Hense why we don't use them any more and have moved to a different server so that we have full control.
Money wise has never been my top priority as setting up a website that helps fellow traders trumps it.this site has better functions than the chartsview private bb as we can load charts and videos directly on to the posts which was not available on the private bb . So making it free would mean losing a lot of revenue but may bring in more people to share there ideas.
For a lot of people paying on the Internet is a no no.They don't trust the Internet .
Another reason is. To appear on google you have to constantly update your web site with new content .So we have to ether keep posting blogs or add new content to appear on google high up as you can imagine this part will take up a lot of time. We don't want to add stuff that are not relevant.
It's still just a thought at this moment and it's just to get a feeler from you guys and girls. End of the day this site was created for chartsview private bb members . It's your site so any way it can be improved just let us know. Obviously there others that have joined from outside the bb now . This is your site as well.

I reckon you got to do what is commercial for the business and also ensure you have "your own time" to do what you love "trading"....if all your time is managing a database etc, then making the site free and allowing a few advertisements to generate income seems a decent option. This would in turn generate much more volume numbers and then get the income part rolling...nobody expects you to run a business at a loss and every site has advertising these days....also agree with all the other comments raised and wish you well whatever you do.....if you did make it free then maybe an "army of iii" would come over.....but is this a good or bad thing?, tougth one to call, but you have my support whatever you decide.

Best of luck
Regards
T/s

Hi remo

Just some suggestions if it went free.......

Trusted members to moderate a section each/certain sections and alert ronnie of certain content being posted?
Must apply as in CV III with an interest in charting with rules to abide by?
Other seasoned Chartists could join and help like you jack and TS do? These could bring in differing perspectives?

Would it be of value to ask outsiders what they think?

Think it's positive as long as your costs are covered in some other way and it gets moderated properly.

Will add when I think of more.

Hi Remo,

I agree with Jackozy, even if you have some other method of covering your costs,
having a subscription will help in other ways.

Hi remo,

Firstly, since you posted that suggestion in the Chartsview Announcements section, we cannot reply to it ;-)

Secondly, wouldn't those admin issues still arise even if CV were free?

Thirdly, I think you and Ronnie ought to decide as only you know how much you've invested in this site and how much work it entails. How would you ever see a return on that investment unless you started advertising?

Finally, from my own point of view I think there's some merit in keeping CV a subscription site. At least, if it costs, there will only be members who are serious learning or about making it work and contributing sensible ideas or questions. As a free site, not only will there be far more posts to trawl through but the quality may also diminish and there could be some serious moderation issues arising from a possible disruptive element which you could control on the III PBB but may not be able to on a free public service.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for freebies :-) but there could be issues akin to the differences between the public BBs and the private ones. CV could end up be infiltrated by a load of fundamentalists which an agenda to subvert the good work of the technos lol! ;-)

Cheers!
